We chose Mosaic because we believe it takes a multiplicity of disciplines to make a well-rounded child. It takes many, many unique pieces to form the beautiful picture that is our children's education. Mosaic represents this perfectly.
Our History
The directors, Amelia Blanco and Jennefer Arrington, have each been homeschooling almost a decade. As their children have gotten older they have seen how important it is to complete core subjects in the morning when students are at their "best and brightest". Yet somehow in the afternoon they found everyone (children and moms) had a tendency to fizzle out. Pondering this, they stood on the porch of Jennefer's house in the fall of 2011 and lamented how they rarely ever got to the subjects that make learning truly fun. They are also the subjects that make a well-rounded child and a rich education.
Discussing different solutions, they found they had similar desires: the need for community to help continue this journey with a group of like-minded families; morning hours open to be spent on the core subjects; accountability, support, and a framework to get the other subjects done; and twice a week meetings. And there the idea for Mosaic started. We didn't have a name or even the idea that we would begin the very next year.
Our MissionDiscussing different solutions, they found they had similar desires: the need for community to help continue this journey with a group of like-minded families; morning hours open to be spent on the core subjects; accountability, support, and a framework to get the other subjects done; and twice a week meetings. And there the idea for Mosaic started. We didn't have a name or even the idea that we would begin the very next year.
We are a Christian homeschool partnership for children up to eighth grade, providing history, science, music, and art. We exist to partner with parents to make the homeschool experience more enriching for the whole family.
We will accomplish this mission by:
- Allowing morning hours to be spent at home on core subjects (math and language arts)
- Utilizing afternoon hours for non-core, enriching experiences
- Providing a framework for history, science, music, and art - subjects best learned in community
- Offering encouragement, support, and community for parents who teach their children at home
Classically-Minded and University-Style
When referring to being "classically-minded" we simply mean we have chosen history and science curricula that each follow a four-year repeating cycle. In the upcoming 2015-2016 year we will be in year one of the cycle covering ancient history and biology. The next year (2016-2017) we will offer medieval history with earth science and the year following we will teach the nineteenth century and physics. Each student will repeat this cycle three times in his/her schooling, each time going deeper and deeper into study of the subject. In our music and art classes students will study composers and artists on a four-year repeating cycle as well.

Options Offered
If your family has a unique situation and you would like to talk about different options that might be available (e.g., drop off for older students, only taking certain courses...), please email the coordinators via the “Contact” tab. We will be happy to discuss possibilities with you on a case by case basis. All final determinations will be made based on the needs of the co-op as a whole.
Teaching Requirements
One parent from each family is required to teach one class and assist in others. On our application you will be asked to rank which classes you would most like to teach. We will do our very best to place each teacher in one of his/her top three choices, but we cannot guarantee such. We will make all determinations based on the needs of the co-op as a whole. If you are interested in Mosaic but a little intimidated about the teaching element, please read the third question on our FAQ tab. If you're still unsure talk to us; we can help!
